About
Hi, I'm Beau, and I love my job.
I get to design and build things. To solve problems that don't exist in any other industry. To negotiate the complicated terrain of shared and/or limited resources with some of the best people on the planet.
Calling yourself a 'creative' is dangerous business -- it's a broad term, and easily misconstrued. But I'm at a loss for something better. I create. Sometimes I create a prop, sometimes a set. Sometimes it's less tangible, like a feeling in a space, or a process to keep my team two steps ahead. I'm constantly creating something, often many things simultaneously.
Production is tricky, but there are lessons hidden within each job: moments or insights that make you a little better than before. I have over 15 years of experience in the art department: this means I can generate a budget (and stay within it), see a project through from concept to wrap, improvise and adapt when the needs or scope of a given job change at the eleventh hour, and work under a disproportionate amount of pressure with people of varying temperament. This means I know the value of an hour and the importance of exceeding expectation in an industry where one poorly executed project is very possibly your last.
I founded Powerplant Creative in 2010 to meet a growing demand for design and fabrication across multiple disciplines. It's not just my career, it's my passion.
