SET DESIGN - Food. Eats. Kid.

Food. Eats. Kid. is an original series from Universal Kids, the drive of which is to teach kids how to cook some familiar dishes in an educational and irreverent manner. The main challenge for this set was that I had to essentially skin my pop-punk inspired set over an existing all-white kitchen, while keeping the installation non-invasive, which means no paint and no screws. The first thing I did was build a couple renders with elements I wanted to include, as a jumping off point — the render would end up being extremely close to the finished build. I built it in Philadelphia, and transported everything to New York for a one-day install.

We also had to design packaging for food to fill the fridge and the pantry rack, which meant creating branding from the ground up. I created a guide, and my assistant and all-around graphics dynamo Steve Arnold generated the files that we’d output and wrap around our groceries.

Small moments of whimsy existed all over the set, and most dressing was modified or customized in one way or another to create a space more curated and hyper-stylized.

My producers at Universal Kids couldn’t have been more supportive, and it was truly a pleasure getting to bring this level of playfulness into a design.     June-July, 2018.
